Sheds

New large shed construction

The Heritage Lottery Fund have very kindly donated money in the form of a grant to the HST to enable a 100 foot, two road shed to be built. As part of the deal the HST has to provide additional finance and labour. The foundations for the shed were started in 2008 and in 2009 the steel framework of the shed was erected. The next stage was digging out the earth around the tracks in the shed to enable the tracks to be concreted in. The next stage of the project is the fitting of the side cladding and doors.

The new shed is vital to the HST project as it will mean that the majority of the collection will now be inside rather than outside facing the elements winter after winter. Grateful thanks are due to the Heritage Lottery Fund and to the HST volunteers who have spent many hours sometimes in rain, snow and strong winds preparing and working on the shed.

The new shed is being built courtesy of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. A condition of the grant is that the HST have to match the funding pound for pound. If you could possibly contribute towards the cost of the new shed this would be greatly appreciated. Please look at our page for further details.

A special page has been created showing photographs of the preparatory work and erection of the framework. This page will be updated on a regular basis with new photographs added when further work is completed. To view the page please click this link.

Small shed construction

The HST planned and constructed a small diesel shed in 2006 as an indoor space was needed to restore the various shunters belonging to the group without the elements undoing any previous work. The shed was constructed at the far end of the HST's plot at Peak Rail and this was designed to hold three or four shunters at any one time. The shed is accessible only from the front.  A new siding was also laid at the side of the shed to enable shunters to stable and facilitate easy access to the shed when necessary.

Some photographs of the shed being constructed in 2006 are below:
